MT HIKING
Travel Tips
Your upcoming Volcanoes National Park experience is a true mountain adventure, and a little preparation will make it much more enjoyable and comfortable.
The terrain is steep, muddy, and can be physically demanding, even on the shorter hikes. A reasonable level of fitness is important, as most trails involve continuous uphill walking with limited flat sections. Your pace will be guided, so there is no need to rush.
Weather in the mountains is highly changeable. You may start the day in sunshine and encounter rain or mist within a short time. We strongly recommend waterproof clothing, a warm layer, and proper hiking shoes with good grip, as conditions can be slippery.
Altitude also plays a role during the climb, meaning the pace may feel slower than expected. This is completely normal, and regular breaks are part of the experience to help you adjust comfortably.
Your ranger guide will lead the entire trek and make all necessary decisions regarding safety, timing, and route. Following their instructions is essential for a smooth and safe experience.
Most importantly, this is not a sightseeing activity but an immersive mountain experience. The journey is physical and sometimes challenging, but the reward is a rare and unforgettable encounter with one of the most unique ecosystems on earth.
