DAYS / 1 NIGHT MOUNT GAHINGA HIKING EXPERIENCE) DAY 1: ARRIVAL & VOLCANOES REGION EXPERIENCE (KIGALI → MUSANZE / KINIGI) You depart Kigali and drive to Musanze, the gateway to Volcanoes National Park. Highlights of the day: Scenic road journey through Rwanda’s rolling hills Arrival and check-in at lodge near park Relaxed afternoon for altitude adjustment Optional short village walk or cultural visit (Batwa experience if arranged) Full briefing for next day’s hike Overnight: Stay in a lodge near Kinigi/Musanze, close to park headquarters for early morning access. DAY 2: MOUNT GAHINGA HIKE & RETURN Mount Gahinga Early morning transfer to Volcanoes National Park headquarters for briefing and start of the hike. Morning: Start of Trek Hike begins through cultivated landscapes into bamboo forest Gradual ascent with moderate slope (less technical than other volcanoes) Opportunity to see golden monkeys depending on movement Mid Hike: Swamp & Volcanic Terrain Unique bamboo and swamp ecosystem section Soft volcanic soil and lush vegetation Slower pace with guided interpretation of flora and fauna Summit Experience Small crater summit with panoramic views of Mount Muhabura Mount Sabyinyo Uganda’s Virunga range Quiet, less crowded summit atmosphere Descent Gentle return through the same trail Arrival at park headquarters in the afternoon Transfer back to Kigali or overnight extension in Musanze
