1-Day Gorilla Trekking in Rwanda

Early Morning: Kigali – Transfer to Volcanoes National Park Early morning (around 4:30–5:00 AM), you will be picked up from your hotel in Kigali by your professional driver-guide. Drive north through Rwanda’s scenic hills toward Volcanoes National Park in Musanze district. Upon arrival at park headquarters, you will attend a briefing by Rwanda Development Board rangers. You will be assigned a gorilla family and given trekking guidelines. Morning: Mountain Gorilla Trekking Experience Begin your trek into the lush rainforest of the Virunga Mountains. The hike can take 2 to 6 hours depending on gorilla movement and terrain conditions. Once you locate the gorillas, you will spend one magical hour observing them in their natural environment—watching feeding, grooming, playing, and family interactions while guided by expert rangers. After the experience, return to the park headquarters and receive your trekking certificate. Afternoon: Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund Visit After lunch, visit the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund Ellen DeGeneres Campus or research center (depending on schedule). Here you will: Learn about Dian Fossey’s legacy in gorilla protection Understand current conservation research and anti-poaching efforts Explore exhibits about mountain gorilla behavior and ecosystem protection Gain insight into how science and community work together to save gorillas Late Afternoon: Return to Kigali After the visit, drive back to Kigali. Arrive in the evening and transfer to your hotel or Kigali International Airport for departure.
