3-Day Rwanda & Uganda Primates Wildlife Experience

DETAILED ITINERARY Day 1: Arrival in Kigali – Transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park (Uganda) Upon your arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your professional English-speaking driver-guide from Virunga Trail Safaris. After a short safari briefing, begin your scenic journey through Rwanda's picturesque countryside, famously known as the "Land of a Thousand Hills," towards the Cyanika Border. After completing border and immigration formalities, continue into Uganda and drive to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, the smallest of Uganda's national parks and home to the endangered mountain gorillas and the rare golden monkeys. Nestled within the spectacular Virunga Volcanoes, the park offers breathtaking mountain scenery and rich biodiversity. Upon arrival at your lodge, check in and enjoy lunch (depending on your arrival time). Spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure, relaxing and taking in the beautiful surroundings while preparing for the next day's unforgettable gorilla trekking adventure. Accommodation: Lodge near Mgahinga Gorilla National Park Meals: Lunch & Dinner Day 2: Mountain Gorilla Trekking – Transfer to Volcanoes National Park (Rwanda) After an early breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters for a pre-trek briefing conducted by experienced Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. During the briefing, you will receive important guidelines about gorilla trekking etiquette, safety, and conservation before being assigned to a habituated gorilla family. Accompanied by expert ranger guides, begin your trek through the dense rainforest in search of the endangered mountain gorillas. Depending on the location of the gorilla family, the trek can take anywhere between 2 and 6 hours. Along the way, your guides will introduce you to the park's diverse flora and fauna while explaining the unique ecosystem of the Virunga Mountains. Once you encounter the gorillas, you will spend one unforgettable hour observing these magnificent primates in their natural habitat. Watch as they feed, play, groom one another, and interact within their family group while capturing memorable photographs and learning about ongoing conservation efforts. After the trek, return to the park headquarters to receive your Gorilla Trekking Certificate before heading back to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, depart Uganda and cross back into Rwanda before continuing to your lodge near Volcanoes National Park for dinner and an overnight stay. Accommodation: Lodge near Volcanoes National Park Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Day 3: Golden Monkey Trekking – Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund – Gorilla Guardians Village – Departure Following an early breakfast, transfer to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters for a briefing before setting off on your exciting golden monkey trekking adventure. Accompanied by experienced park rangers, hike through the bamboo forests in search of the endangered golden monkeys. These lively and colorful primates are known for their playful behavior and striking golden-orange fur, making them one of Rwanda's most fascinating wildlife experiences. Enjoy excellent opportunities for photography while observing them in their natural habitat. After the trek, visit the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, where you will learn about the inspiring legacy of Dian Fossey and the ongoing conservation initiatives dedicated to protecting mountain gorillas and preserving their forest habitat. Next, continue to the Gorilla Guardians Village for an authentic cultural experience. Meet members of the local community, enjoy traditional Rwandan dance and music performances, explore ancient customs and traditions, and discover how community-based tourism has created sustainable livelihoods while supporting wildlife conservation. After the cultural visit, enjoy lunch before beginning your scenic drive back to Kigali. If time permits, enjoy a brief Kigali city tour before your transfer to Kigali International Airport for your onward departure flight, marking the end of your unforgettable primate safari.
