2-Day Nyungwe Chimpanzee Trekking Safari

Day 1: Kigali – King’s Palace Museum – Coffee Plantation – Nyungwe Forest Early morning, you will be picked up from your hotel or Kigali International Airport by your professional driver-guide from Virunga Trail Safaris. Begin your journey south through Rwanda’s scenic rolling hills with beautiful terraced landscapes. King’s Palace Museum Visit (Nyanza) Your first stop is the King's Palace Museum, the traditional royal residence of Rwanda’s former monarchy. Explore the reconstructed royal palace, learn about Rwanda’s pre-colonial history, and see the famous long-horned Inyambo cattle kept as part of royal heritage. Coffee Plantation Experience Continue to a local coffee plantation where you will learn the full process of coffee production—from planting and harvesting to roasting and tasting. Enjoy fresh Rwandan coffee while interacting with local farmers. Transfer to Nyungwe Forest After lunch, continue your scenic drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park, located in southwestern Rwanda. Arrive in the evening, check in at your lodge, relax, and prepare for the next day’s chimpanzee trekking adventure. Accommodation: Lodge near Nyungwe Forest Meals: Lunch & Dinner Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking – Canopy Walk – Return to Kigali Early morning after breakfast, transfer to Nyungwe Park headquarters for briefing before starting your chimpanzee trekking experience. Chimpanzee Trekking Enter the dense rainforest in search of habituated chimpanzees. The trek may take 2–5 hours depending on their movement. Once located, spend one exciting hour observing them as they feed, play, and interact in their natural habitat. Canopy Walk Experience After trekking, enjoy the famous Nyungwe Canopy Walk, a suspended bridge high above the forest offering breathtaking views of the jungle, birds, and distant hills. Return to Kigali After lunch, begin your return journey to Kigali. Depending on your flight time, enjoy a short city tour before being dropped at Kigali International Airport for your departure.
