Journey Experience: Kigali departure (early morning) Drive through rolling hills and volcanic landscapes Immigration clearance at Cyanika border Continue to Kisoro / Mgahinga region Arrival & Preparation: Check-in at comfortable mid-range lodge near the park Relaxation and altitude adjustment Optional short village walk or cultural interaction (time permitting) Evening briefing with your trekking guide Gear check and early rest for next day Overnight: Mid-range lodge in Kisoro or near Mgahinga gate, selected for comfort, cleanliness, and proximity to the park. DAY 2: GORILLA TREKKING – MGAHINGA NATIONAL PARK & RETURN Mgahinga Gorilla National Park Early morning transfer to park headquarters for briefing and gorilla group allocation. MORNING: TREKKING BRIEFING & START Registration and ranger briefing Allocation to gorilla family (Nyakagezi group) Start trek through bamboo forest and volcanic foothills Trek duration varies (2–6 hours depending on gorilla movement) MID-TREK EXPERIENCE Dense bamboo and montane forest trekking Steep but manageable terrain with ranger guidance Occasional sightings of golden monkeys and forest birds Steady tracking with support from ranger teams GORILLA ENCOUNTER 1 full hour with the gorilla family Observing natural behavior (feeding, grooming, interaction) Strict distance and conservation rules maintained Quiet, respectful photography and observation RETURN JOURNEY Trek back to park headquarters Receive trekking certificate (where issued) Lunch stop in Kisoro area Return drive to Kigali or overnight extension (optional)
