Everything you need to know before your gorilla trekking adventure in Rwanda, from permits to packing lists.
Gorilla trekking in Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park is one of the most sought-after wildlife experiences on Earth. With only 96 permits available daily and a price of $1,500 per person, proper planning is essential.
Getting Your Permit
Gorilla permits must be booked well in advance, especially during peak seasons (June-September and December-February). We handle all permit arrangements as part of our tour packages.
Best Time to Visit
Rwanda can be visited year-round, but the dry seasons offer easier trekking conditions. The long dry season runs from June to September, while the short dry season is December to February.
What to Expect
Treks typically last 2-6 hours depending on gorilla location. You'll spend exactly one hour with the gorillas once found. Rangers track the gorillas daily, so success rates are nearly 100%.
